Rajasthan Assembly Completes 75 Years, Om Birla Highlights Legacy of Democratic Values and Parliamentary Traditions

Rajasthan Assembly completes 75 years with an Amrit Mahotsav celebration where Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla highlighted Rajasthan’s centuries-old democratic traditions, the importance of dialogue and consensus, parliamentary dignity, and the assembly’s role as a school for public representatives.

The Rajasthan Assembly has completed 75 years of its remarkable journey, marking the milestone with the Amrit Mahotsav celebration organized to commemorate the glorious 75-year legacy of the state legislature. Addressing the event as the chief guest, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that Rajasthan’s democratic tradition is centuries old and has remained rooted in dialogue, discussion, and consensus-building even during the era of royal rule.

Om Birla stated that the culture of communication, deliberation, and agreement that existed in Rajasthan’s historical governance system continues to remain the strength of democracy even today. He emphasized that after independence, Rajasthan continued to strengthen democratic values and parliamentary traditions, setting an example through its commitment to constitutional practices and public representation.

Sharing his experience from his parliamentary journey, Om Birla said that the Rajasthan Assembly was his first political and parliamentary school. He stated that during his tenure as a legislator, he learned the importance of parliamentary dignity, constructive dialogue, and democratic values from the state assembly. He added that these experiences shaped his approach as the Lok Sabha Speaker, where he continuously strives to provide every member an opportunity to express their views.

Recalling an important piece of advice received after becoming the Lok Sabha Speaker, Birla said that a senior Member of Parliament had advised him that the Speaker should not repeatedly stand from the Chair, as it could affect the dignity of the position. He said that he followed this advice throughout his tenure and, during his seven-year term, never stood from the Chair.

Birla stressed that regardless of the level of tension or disruption inside the House, the Speaker must always maintain patience, restraint, and impartiality.
